Panchayat Season 4: Will it know when to say goodbye?

The wait is finally over! The trailer for Panchayat Season 4 has dropped and with it, an exciting surprise for fans: the show’s release date has been moved up from July 2 to June 24. The decision came after a fan-voting campaign, further proving the massive love and connection the audience shares with the fictional world of Phulera.
With its fourth season, Panchayat isn’t just continuing its story, it’s deepening the roots of the village life we’ve all come to adore. But as the show matures, the inevitable question returns: how long can it go on without losing its charm?
Set against the backdrop of the village elections, the new season dives headfirst into political drama. The trailer shows Manju Devi (Neena Gupta) and Kranti Devi (Sunita Rajwar) going head-to-head in a gripping battle to become the next ‘Pradhan’ (village head). Phulera turns into a mini-political battlefield complete with rally songs, over-the-top promises, and clever strategies that manage to be both laugh-worthy and painfully real.
In true Panchayat fashion, there’s chaos, emotion, and a dose of cheeky humour. But beneath all the jokes lies an honest reflection of rural India the kind we rarely see portrayed with such sensitivity and depth.
Since its debut in 2020, Panchayat has been more than just a web series. It’s been a cultural phenomenon. At a time when most shows relied on big cities, glamour, and high-stakes crime thrillers, Panchayat took a quieter route, one that resonated deeply.
The story of Abhishek Tripathi (played by the brilliant Jitendra Kumar) a city-bred engineering graduate reluctantly posted as a Gram Panchayat secretary hit a nerve with viewers. His journey to adjust, understand, and eventually care for the village of Phulera was both heartwarming and refreshingly relatable.
What made Panchayat stand out was its simplicity. The dialogues weren’t dramatic, the sets weren’t glossy, and the characters weren’t picture-perfect. But everything felt real. Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Chandan Roy, and Faisal Malik breathed life into their roles, creating a tight-knit, believable world.
As Season 4 approaches, it brings with it the joy of reunion but also some concern. Many beloved shows in the past have struggled to maintain their magic beyond a few seasons. What starts as a tight story can easily become overstretched, diluted, or repetitive.
Panchayat creator Chandan Kumar recently said that the show evolves “organically” and that new characters and dynamics have been added to keep the narrative fresh. That’s reassuring. Still, viewers can’t help but wonder: Will this be the season where things start to slide? Or will the makers know when it’s time to wrap things up with dignity?
It’s a pattern we’ve seen in the Indian OTT space before great shows running just a little too long, and eventually losing the very thing that made them special. Panchayat has managed to avoid that trap so far. But going forward, the makers will need to be careful. The emotional arcs need proper closure. The supporting characters like Prahlad, Vikas, and Rinki deserve more than just side notes. And Abhishek’s journey can’t be stretched thin just for the sake of longevity.
A Thoughtful End is Better Than a Dragged Story
In a world where endless seasons often replace meaningful ones, maybe the biggest triumph for Panchayat would be knowing when to say goodbye. If it ends at the right moment, it could be remembered not just as a great show, but a rare one that never lost its soul.
For now, fans can celebrate the return of their favourite show, eagerly waiting to see how the village election plays out and whether Phulera can survive the chaos. Until then, we tune in on June 24, hoping for one more season of heart, humour, and wholesome drama.
